What exactly is ecoproxy.org?
Ecoproxy.org is a website dedicated to providing free, proxified, anonymous browsing. Web proxies are often used to bypass content and bandwidth restrictions that may hinder one's public browsing experience. A proxy also provides a certain degree of anonymity for the end-user.

What makes ecoproxy different?
Perhaps the most apparent difference between our site and other proxies is our lack of excessive advertising. While pop-up ads and flashy advertisements can certainly be more lucrative, their presence contradicts our primary goal of attracting and respecting a loyal group of regular users.
Secondly, ecoproxy is the first and only tree-planting proxy. A portion of all advertisement revenues are used to purchase live trees to be planted by The Nature Conservancy in the Atlantic Forest region of Brazil.
Thirdly, the internet is incredibly dynamic; such that the most commonly visited websites are frequently changing their code. Occasionally, these changes will cause problems with our default parser, and customizations may be necessary for website to be properly proxified. We check for these problems periodically and work to resolve them in a reasonably efficient manner.

You plant trees? How exactly does it work?
It may seem a bit unusual at first, but yes, our website plants trees. Inspired by websites such as freerice.com and thehungersite.com, ecoproxy hopes to provide a service that allows users to support a good cause without reaching for one's credit card. Trees are purchased directly from The Nature Conservancy and are planted in the Atlantic Forest region of Brazil. While a constant number of trees are planted based solely on a set proportion of our advertisement revenue (after bandwidth and hosting costs), one tree is also planted for every one thousand page impressions our front page receives. This means that even without clicking the advertisement links of our sponsors, you can still contribute simply by using ecoproxy normally.

What are the links on your front page about?
These are simply a handful of unsolicited unsponsored links to organizations whose causes we support. These links may change periodically to reflect current world events and social movements that we feel deserve special attention. The selection of links presented should never indicate any sort of political ideology, other than a staunch support of fundamental humanitarian and ecological causes. Feel free to suggest a link of an established organization that you feel deserves attention on our contact page (coming soon).

Why doesn't X website work through ecoproxy?
While we do our best to make sure the most mainstream of websites work properly with ecoproxy, given our unspecific demographic and the multitude of popular websites the internet has to offer, it's often difficult to ascertain exactly which sites need our attention. We encourage you to submit a request on our contact page (coming soon) for a particularly important site you wish to access that is currently unavailable. Each request will be considered, but obscure websites will likely be dismissed. Furthermore, much to our regret, there are some sites that are simply incapable of being proxified due to complexity or encryption.

How can I support ecoproxy?
The best way to support ecoproxy is to tell your friends about us and spread the word! We currently do not accept donations. You may also consider donating to The Nature Conservancy directly, at their website nature.org.
